Walkaround
A walkaround is a short video that moves around and through a vehicle the way a shopper would if they walked up to it in person, covering the exterior, the interior, and usually the engine bay.
A walkaround gives a shopper the closest thing to an in-person look without leaving their couch — it shows how the exterior panels catch light from different angles, what the seats and dash actually look like once you’re inside, and how the doors, trunk, and hood open and close. For inventory that turns over fast, a walkaround is the fastest way to answer questions a photo gallery alone can’t.
Dealers have historically had to either film these themselves — holding a phone and narrating while walking around a vehicle in a parking lot — or pay for a videographer to visit the lot. Neither one scales to a whole lot: filming takes real time per unit, and a hired videographer is an added cost that has to get built into every listing.
Questions
Walkaround, answered.
Do I have to film a walkaround with a camera?
Yes — a walkaround is filmed footage. A consistent photo gallery is the lighter alternative that every unit can have.
What should a walkaround cover?
The exterior from multiple angles, the interior (seats, dash, cargo area), and usually the engine bay — roughly the same ground a shopper would cover if they walked up to the vehicle in person.
