Mask license plates, faces, and a marked VIN area in derived listing photos while the immutable original remains untouched.

Capability

What it does

License plate blur keeps identifying characters out of a public listing without asking you to crop away a useful view. VehiclePhoto runs automatic plate detection after background replacement, when the coordinates match the composed photo, and applies a coarse mosaic when a plate is found. If detection finds nothing, the audit data says that the step ran and skipped rather than claiming a mask was applied.

The broader Privacy panel handles related checks. It can detect faces and apply the selected face-blur policy. A VIN is different: there is no automatic VIN OCR in this surface, so you mark the VIN region that needs masking. The result records what was targeted and how. Uploaded originals remain immutable; privacy work creates derived versions that can be reviewed against the source.

Automatic plate masking

The default exterior chain detects license plates on the composed image and applies the privacy-safe mask when a plate is found.

Face and VIN controls

The Privacy panel detects faces when you apply its policy; VIN masking uses the region you mark rather than unverified automatic OCR.

Re-editable workflow

Each masked output is a derived version, so you can return to the immutable original, adjust the selection, and create a new result.

Workflow

How it works

  1. 01

    Run the privacy check

Use the automatic exterior chain for license plates, or open the Privacy panel to inspect detected plates and faces on one photo.

  2. 02

    Mark any VIN

Draw the VIN region when it is visible and should be masked; the product does not claim automatic VIN text detection.

  3. 03

    Compare and approve

Inspect every masked region against the immutable original, adjust a missed or excessive selection, and create a revised derived version.

Workflow

Where it fits

Use plate blur before a photo leaves your controlled workspace, especially when a trade-in plate, a background vehicle, a face, or a visible VIN could reach a public page. Review reflections, windows, mirrors, and neighboring vehicles rather than checking just the most obvious rear view.

Automatic detection reduces repetitive work, but approval still matters. Small, angled, obscured, or reflected details can be missed, and a broad region can hide useful context. The dedicated guide explains the manual checks; the free browser tool is available when you need to blur one file outside a listing workflow.

FAQ

Plate blur, answered.

Is plate blur automatic?

License plate detection and masking run in the default exterior chain when enabled. Review the result because difficult angles, reflections, and small background plates can still require attention.

Are faces and VINs automatic?

The Privacy panel detects faces when its policy is applied. VIN masking uses a region you mark; VehiclePhoto does not claim automatic VIN OCR for this workflow.

Can I change the mask?

Yes. A mosaic is irreversible inside that derived file, but the uploaded original is immutable. Return to it, adjust the selection or policy, and create another version.
