Shot list

A shot list is the specific set of angles and views expected for one vehicle — front, sides, rear, interior, engine bay, and any other required shots — so a listing’s photos are complete before it’s used for a listing.

Different vehicle types need different shot lists: a car’s list looks different from a motorcycle’s (which needs both sides shot separately because a bike isn’t symmetric the way a car roughly is) or an RV’s (where the interior carries much more of the sale than the exterior does). A shot list exists so whoever’s taking the photos knows exactly what’s still missing before calling a listing done.

Marketplaces publish their own version of this. Cars.com’s own seller guidance, for example, spells out an eight-angle exterior list — “Left front (offset), Front, Right front (offset), Left rear (offset), Rear, Right rear (offset), Left side, Right side” — plus three interior shots and four “other” shots covering the engine, tire, trunk, and odometer: a genuinely useful reference for what a complete listing looks like, even for dealers not listing on Cars.com specifically.

A shot list matters most when it’s checked automatically rather than by memory: a guided capture flow that tracks which angles are done and which are still missing catches a skipped shot before a listing goes live with an incomplete gallery, instead of a shopper noticing the gap first.

Questions

Shot list, answered.

Is the shot list the same for every vehicle type?

No — a motorcycle, an RV, and a car each need a different set of angles, because what actually needs showing (both sides of an asymmetric bike, the interior of an RV) is different.

Where does a published shot list like this come from?

Some marketplaces publish their own — Cars.com’s own seller guidance, for example, lists a specific set of exterior, interior, and other shots it recommends for a complete listing.

VehiclePhoto handles this automatically — clean backgrounds, matching angles, privacy masking, and grounded listing copy, built from the photos you already have.
